Where love of
learning begins
Art
At The Long Ridge School, the visual arts play a vital role in every child’s education. Art is a powerful tool with which to explore the world and contribute to other areas of learning. Through this form of expression, each student learns the power of imagination, problem-solving creatively, and the skills and techniques needed to speak in a visual language. Lessons are planned around students’ interests, classroom themes, art history, literature, music, and visual culture. A wide variety of media is explored throughout the school year. Learning techniques and tools such as illustrations, art books, group discussions, and field trip experiences help to enhance students’ understanding of art.
“The object isn’t to make art,
it’s to be in that wonderful state which makes art inevitable.”
—Robert Henri
Our elementary students will acquire skills to express and communicate, respect the originality of their own visual expressions and the artwork of others and develop manipulative and organizational skills in using art media effectively to translate ideas, feelings, and values.
