We are an independent, coeducational day school enrolling children from 2-years-old through grade five, exclusively focused on early childhood and elementary education.
What makes your educational approach unique?
We offer a progressive, inquiry-based, individualized learning experience in a joyful, safe environment that nurtures academic, social, and emotional growth.
How big is your campus and where is it located?
Our scenic 14-acre wooded campus is located on Erskine Road in Stamford and provides a beautiful setting for outdoor exploration and learning.
What class structure and size do you have?
We maintain small, multi-age two-year classrooms with a low student-teacher ratio, fostering meaningful relationships between our teachers and students.
What academic subjects do students learn?
Students engage in core subjects, language arts, math, science, and social studies, and are encouraged to explore, experiment, and test ideas as they learn.
How long has The Long Ridge School been part of the community?
Founded in 1938, we began with just six students. In 1957, we moved to our current Erskine Road campus. Our core philosophy, celebrating each child’s individuality and pace, continues today.

Yes. The Long Ridge School has been named the “Best Elementary School” in Stamford, CT for 16 consecutive years.

What special features does your programming include?
We include technology as a tool for creation and problem-solving from coding and digital communication in early grades through learning platforms like Scratch and Code.org, and advancing to circuit building, 3D design, and interdisciplinary projects. Additionally, our science program encourages children to observe carefully, question deeply, make discoveries and construct concepts to build a strong foundation in the physical, life, earth and space sciences. Our science room is equipped with a multitude of materials and tools, and our hands-on, experiential approach fosters scientific inquiry, helping students become science-literate adults.
How many students are enrolled, and how diverse is the student body?
We currently enroll around 90 children; 37% are from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, fostering a welcoming and inclusive community.
Do you involve the entire school community in events or fundraising?
Yes; our annual benefit brings together teachers, parents, alumni, and trustees to support and celebrate our shared vision and traditions. Additional fun community events (e.g. apple picking, pumpkin patch, Ice Cream Social, parent nights) also foster community cohesiveness and the sense of belonging.
