Where love of
learning begins
Mathematics
At Long Ridge, our mathematics program nurtures confident, flexible thinkers who understand both the “how” and the “why” of math. From the earliest grades, students build strong number sense through hands-on exploration, games, and problem solving. They work with manipulatives, visual models, and math stories to make sense of quantities, operations, and patterns.
As they progress, students deepen their conceptual understanding across core topics, including place value, fractions, geometry, measurement, and data. They build fluency with foundational skills while also learning to apply math creatively—designing floor plans, estimating real-world quantities, or analyzing and graphing data.
Instruction is intentionally differentiated to meet each child’s developmental stage and learning style. Students are encouraged to explore multiple strategies, explain their reasoning, and solve problems in more than one way. In upper grades, they begin to take on more abstract work, including long-term projects and multi-step problems that require perseverance, planning, and precision.
With an emphasis on critical thinking, communication, and collaboration, our math program challenges students to think deeply, take risks, and apply their learning in meaningful ways—preparing them to approach increasingly complex mathematical domains with confidence and curiosity.
“Mathematics is the most beautiful and most powerful creation of the human spirit.”.”
—Stephan Banach, mathematician
